4.2 to 4.0 swap help????

Im getting a 4.0 out of a 98 XJ to go in place of my 4.2 in my 89 YJ. The 4.0 has none of the wiring with it, what will I need to make it run? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Ok, let me ask a different question, since I have none of the wiring, what is the best donor to get the wiring harness from? Im going from a 98XJ 4.0 to an 89YJ replacing a 4.2?

i would say 96 and up wrangler. 96 because you have an obd 2 motor and wrangler because I would think it would fit in a little better.

I just completed a 4.0 swap in my 89 Wrangler. I ended up using a 94 xj for a donor vehicle. Bought the whole vehicle for $450. The bigger hurdle you run into with 96 on up is OBD 2 electronics. The OBD 1 is a much simpler install IMO. Especially if you live in a area with no smog tests.
