4.0L pulled 4 years ago ????

Hey, Im swaping the motor in my 96 zj, and i picked up a new(salvaged) motor from a well known auto recycler and i just noticed the tag on it seems to indicate it was pulled in 2002.... Should i worry about this?, its a 98 motor so its seems like it ran for 4 years and sat for 4 years. and also anything i should do to it becuse of this.

It isn't necessarily a problem that it sat for that long. If it was covered and moisture wasn't let in then it should be fine. I would spray some pb blaster or oil into the cylenders and crank it over by hand a few times. If you feel a lot of resistance or scraping (due to rust), I would take the engine back. Sometimes you can get the rings to seal after rust, sometimes you can't.

I recently fired up two vehicles that were stored for 20 years. I oiled each cylinder prior to turning them over, and both ran fine. If the engine was in good shape four years ago, it still may be.
