4.0L Engine Differences?

Are the 4.0L I-6's in 97'-2001 Wranglers the same as the 4.0L I-6's in 97-2001 Cherokees?

I am mainly interested in direction of rotation as I am trying to determine if a AC compressor from a 4.0L Cherokee will work with the engine for a 97' TJ. Nobody in the stealership parts department could tell me one way or another, other than the p/n's were different. But they often have different part numbers for the same piece of hardware. I know the mounting is the same, but I want to confirm if the engines rotate the same direction.
