4.0 Engine Rebuild Price

Hey guys, I have a tired old 87 Cherokee Laredo that is in need of a rebuild (180k). I have called around my local area for prices of a rebuild and here is the best I can come up with. A company want $495 to rebuild the shortblock. This includes all parts and labor like putting new Sealed Power pistons, new rings, main and rod bearings, turning the crank, machining the rods to hold new bearings, etc. This seems ok, but I will still need some head work done (IE valve job, new guides, etc.) Or i can get the whole longblock redone with new parts for $799. How do these prices sound as I need this car done ASAP and my only other choice is to buy an already rebuilt motor for like $1100.

It does'nt sound like a bad price but what kind of warranty are you getting if they rebuild yours? In my opinion I would get the reman engine if it has atleast a 3year 36000 mile warranty on it.

Prices sound about right and I 2nd the warranty policy. If the shop is willing to warranty the engine, for at least a year, do business with them.

However, if you want the rig up and running immediately, buy the already re-built.
