4.0 Compatable question

Hey folks, I need to find out if a 1996 4.0HO is the same as a 1995 4.0HO. My daughter’s 1995 Cherokee sport is knocking pretty bad and I just came across a 1996 crate motor. Can anyone tell me the differences or let me know where I can find this info.
Thanks

I think 96 is when they went to obd2 fuel injection.Would require another computer to run it.

The '96 was the new block and head. The engine will physically fit. IE bolt up no problems. The only problem might be that the early HO 91-95 had an extra temp sensor in the head. I don't know about the adaptabiltiy of that.
Your presnt electronic would work fine.
