4.0 or chevy 4.3??

starting off i have a 89 yj with the 258 and auto tranny.. recently i swapped in the MC2100 and am pleased with the power gain but come to find out that its not exactly smog legal here in California .. but good news i have till next year to pass smog so in the mean time i'm thinking about doing an engine swap..
my family is a chevy family since forever and i'm the first to break away and get a jeep (which i'm utterly stoked on) so i know about the v6 4.3L and i know that they produce a lot of power.. but would it be smog legal swap it in?? another thing is i'm also considering doing a 4.0L stroked and bored about 30 over... does anyone know about swapping either of these and passing cali's smog tests?? and a pricing on both would be sweet too..

89 White Islander at, stock for now but hopefully running 35's by summer... Sold...

You can do a budget stroker VERY cheap. I can build you one if you like (PM me). If you build one yourself, a good reliable stroker will cost you about $800 + the motor. I'm doing a very low budget one right now (my second stroker. sold the first). I got a rering kit for $200 on ebay, and I got a 258 for free (you use the crank and rods from it) and I got an XJ with a 4.0L for $650. So I might actually make money on the build.

I've HEARD of people doing the chevy swap but never seen one or seen more details.

I'm almost positive there are write up's on doing a 4.0L swap so it really shouldn't be that hard.
