4.0/4.2 Turbo

*i dont know what i was thinking but this is the same as what is in the YJ forum*

alright guys, im from jeepsunlimited.com and the forums are down and ive been entertaining this...

now im rebuilding my 4.2 with this:

4.0 head
650 holley
bored 60 over
Isky cam *dont know duration/lift*
DUI ignition

*and yes it will handle the fuel*

the way ive been thinking of doing it is:

i would use a turbo from a similar RPM range engine and create custom intake, and then use a banks header mated with custom exhaust to the turbo. Then just tow it up the the exhaust shop and have the rest of the banks exhaust put on.

now to my questions:

has anyone done a turbo install on a 4.0/4.2, what did you use/do?
is it possible to do on a carbuerated engine?

im shure ill have other questions but this is what im thyinking as of right now.

thanks guys

yes it is possible to pressurize a carbed engine. Pressurizing something that was not meant to be is a BIG I mean BIG job. You can't begin to imagine the can of worms you are opening. With something like this lots of things are going to have to be custom made, anything custom in vehicles always means lots of $$. And please, dont skip out on steps in the process. You dont do this or that now just to get the turbo on and i garunatee it will cost you more later when your engine blows. That engine needs to be gone over, it shoudl be realitivly new or rebuilt. Mapping out the fuel needs of a carbed engine with a turbo is a major concern, which requires the use of professional shops at hundreds of dollars an hour to use. Isnt there a supercharger kit for the 4.0? I thought I herad of one before. Isnt the 4.0 fuel injected? that holly wont do you a bit of good then. I am not trying to talk you out of this but jsut be aware of what you are getting into. Its a damn big project.

Read this post on what this guy has to deal with with an engine set up with too much power in a little Jeep.
