My block was magnafluxed an no cracks but machine shop said number 6 cyclinder needs a sleeve. Bad idea? Should I seek a new block?

Sleeving is usually done if there is a heavy scratch or other damage that can't be bored out. It is common on diesels and other more expensive blocks due to the cost/difficulty of replacing the block.
Most common blocks, such as SBC's, are simply replaced. I would check the cost difference between sleeving your existing block and purchasing a replacement.
