350 or 4.0 swap?

I know the 4.0 swap would be much easier and less costly to upgrade other parts

but what all would be needed for a 350?
Someone said i might need to upgrade my trans and transfer case and all that crap

input would be hella tight

thanks,
adam

What is your budget? that will determine what is best for you. Are you comfortable with all the efi wiring? there is a good chance you will find the weak link in your drivetrain if you put a 350 in there, and there is still a chance you will find it if you put a 4.0 in it.

Are you looking for power or drivability or both?

welll the thought of a v8 is cool to me. Like just the customization and longevity of it sounds cool since im going to be pieceing this project together.

im not necessarily worried about a budget cause i would be slowly collecting everything and makin it the way i want it.
im comfortable with the wiring, im able to bring it to school and use it as a project so with teachers there ill feel better.

im lookin more for just a weekend rig not so much a dd
depends how deep i choose to get with my integra after i replace the clutch and flywheel and look into scca stuff.

my buddy said i can stroke the 4.2 and combine 4.0 parts and make a 4.6?
or would it be the cheapest to throw the 4.0 parts on?

def sounds like a excellent candidate for a 350

some will argue the 4.3 vortec v6 has around the same power

but theres just no explaining the feeling you get when you hop in your yj, turn it over, and your hear your v8 start up.

it makes every drive pleasurable.

if it doesnt have to be a DD then go for it.

see my build thread in the sig.

You will get much more bang for your buck with the 350-parts everywhere for reasonably cheap. As for the comparison to the 4.3 Vortec, it all depends on how you set up the 350. Done properly, there will be no comparison, especially when it comes to low end torque. If I was doing this, there would be the near bullet proof sm465 behind the 350 with an adapter to the 300. I have seen a lot of good 465's for less than $100.

SCCA gets VERY expensive unless you just plan on going to your regional Auto Cross races. Just the showroom stock B class, the most basic class there is, is going to cost you a OEM vehicle with the correct power to weight ration, a roll bar (4pt cage), driving gear, a set of wheels, and some slicks. The parts like tires and brakes add up in a hurry. I raced in ASA American Iron one season, and managed to go through 4 full sets of Porsche brakes, and 5 more sets of pads, in just 9 races. Just to put a $ figure to it, a full set of brakes is in the $8000 range... thank god for the sponsership or it would have been a short season. So with about $35,000 just in brakes... you can see how costly things get. Keep in mind, this was a 140mph Mustang down the front strait of IRP. The guys in the Corvettes and Vipers were hitting around 160mph I belive.

Have you considered an EFI Ford 5.0? Or an AMC V8?
Do you have a budget in mind?

A stock 5.0 Ford HO with the E7 heads and a mild B-cam would be a very smooth, fuel-efficient engine with more than enough power for a YJ

ive decided to go with the 4.0 head swap and the TBI kit
seems the most cost effective way and the TBI kit seems like it would be fun to do even though the price kinda sucks...

as for the SCCA my brakes wont cost nearly as much as yours did lol
i am able to get 4 rotors for 90 bucks and pads all round for 60 so thats fine with me
the tires id run are the yokohama prada spec 2's or the nitto neogens
so those are about 60-75 bucks a piece. luckily i work at TIRES plus haha
but yeah the roll cage and performance for building my motor WILL be expensive. But its definately something i wanna do.

There for awhile I was dead set on the 4.0 replacing my 2.4. Then I realized that, even though I love the 4.0, I wanted something to show for my work and money. Something better than the average tj rollin down the street. So I decided if I ever get a xj or maybe a cj, I will just make sure it has a 4.0. And my tj will have a 360 magnum.

You might have an easier time than I did finding 4.0 parts (yjs are older, my tj is still kind of newish, hard to find same year donors)

My opinion is, if your going to do it, have something to show for it if you know what I mean. I found that dodge magnum parts are cheaper than 4.0 parts because there are more rolled and messed up dodges around than there are jeeps. I suppose with the adapters you might come out around the same price. Just depends on what you want to run with.

edit: see you made your choice already lol
