32RH Transmission wont shift after home rebuild, HELP!!!

HEy everyone,

My buddies and i did a rebuild on my 32RH and now the stupid thing wont shift into 3rd gear & it only stays in second when in drive. If you manually shift you have 1st and second.

We readjusted the TV cable and the front band.

any ideas? Im dying to run some holes again. Thanks

Norb

I don't know if this will help you but here is link for a online manual http://www.scribd.co m/mobile/doc/23066655?width=369 it has a trouble shooting section that might help you.

When you did your transmission do you remember seeing this spring?

we almost missed it too, this spring goes under the yellow bushing with the big large diameter spring there is a bore in the yellow thing it sits in.,

that link is not working.

That scribd link works for me. http://www.scribd.com/doc/23066655/3...D-INSTALLATION
It's trouble shooting section is legit.

I think you said you already checked the throttle cable adjustment, but that would cause it to not shift correctly. See attached image. (from the scribd doc)

We tried adjusting the cable the other day as wel and didnt get anything but going to try it again tomorrow some time (probably after the ford show) i will let you all know. If that doesnt work ima talk to a tranny shop, if they tell me it needs another rebuil ima use first and second only until i kill it again.

I am at work right now but should be home late Wednesday . Thursday I will pull the pan off the tranny and put that wayward spring in. Then put the engine and tranny back in the Jeep, we will have to see how I do. I ended up having the crank shaft reground on the engine, pulled the tranny apart enough to replace the clutch packs and steels, a new forward band and a shift kit. What could possible go wrong LOL.

re-adjusted the TV cable, it will shift second at high RPM (seems a little too high), and will actually shift third if i let off the throttle for a second, then at full throttle it will kick back down. So its better but not perfect... any other ideas?

thanks for the help.

Sounds like it's getting a little better. Have you seen this doc?: http://www.scribd.com/doc/57613676/J...on-Adjustments

Do you have the band adjustment tool? Maybe run through the front and rear band adjustment procedures from the above doc.

It makes me cringe at all the atf fluid I have wasted messing with this auto trans. NEVER AGAIN! The only reason I keep this jeep is because I've had it for +15 years, I got it when I was 15yo.

Anyway. Good luck, post the results.

So have you made any progress?

I got my engine and tranny back in last night. The flex plate is hitting the fly wheel, so it is a little noisy. That will be job #1 today.

It would seem that I have no first gear, I have reverse 2nd and 3rd. So job #2 will be a cable adjustment, hopefully that will work. If not then I will try a front band adjustment. Should that still not work I will have to go back in.
