Keep manuel says every eight thousand miles for the oil change . Seems long to me ?? Any thoughts ?? Even when using royal purple in my 3.8 commander I changed oil every 4500 miles.

Many new vehicles have oil change intervals well over the old 3k standard. Some as much as 10k. I run 5k changes on my WJ with Moble 5000 oil (coventional).

Oils are getting better, with running synthetic oils you can increase the interval. The only thing is the oil still gets dirty and its ability to filter or suspend dirt, soot, or whatever does not change. The oil filters on these engines are not huge either so I wonder if going that distance is actually ok or not.

With proper filtration engine oil can actually last 25k miles, maybe even longer. If you are that worried or picky about it you can always run an oil analysis.

Thats ok to do, but if you are worried it wouldnt be bad at all to take a couple thousand miles off that interval. I am sure the factory recommended oil is a synthetic, or sythentic blend, I would not expect them to recommend that kind of interval on a conventional oil. Also if you do a lot if short trips, stop and go, towing, offroad, extreme temps, etc. I would change it more often too.

Bear in mind that the longer oil change intervals are as much to do with making the car seem better value for money in advertisements as they are for any engineering reasons. In other words, just because the manual says you can go up to 10k between changes doesn't mean the engine wouldn't benefit from more frequent changes.
