2.5 water in oil

I have a 1997 TJ with a 2.5 that has a 93 stamp on it that I bought used a few years ago.

My most recently issue: I noticed that the radiator was losing about a gallon of water ever 2-3 days. Lately I don't drive the Heep anymore then to work and back which is about 12 miles round trip. And the missing coolant had me stumped considering that I recently replaced the water pump and rad hoses. And above all, I have see any water dripping. But inside I knew where it was going but I have tried to ignore the obvious until the other day. I pulled the dipstick and there it was!!

This is where I could use some guidance. Today I pulled the head and the gasket seemed to be ok. There were no stained spots on the gasket that I could see that would be a sign of water passing.

Any ideas or suggestions? I have to get this thing back together asap!! Thanks!

It may still be the gasket let's hope.
If not then check foe rust in the water jacket.
Do the water jackets on the block match the head correctly?
You may want to pull the engine take it to a machine shop.
But I would start with a fresh gasket first

I just found a motor out of a 2000 TJ for $300. It sounds good. So now the question is will that 2000 motor swap out with my 97?

Yes. May have to play with the accessories.
Use your electronics and sensors
