2.5 takes long to start/hard starting

hello please help me out i have a 1997 jeep tj 2.5 with 184000km everytime i go to start it, it cranks for quite a while then eventualy fires, now i already looked at a few things such as, when i turn the key i can hear the pump run, i replaced the rotar, cap, wired and plugs... what seems to be working right now is to turn the key on and off three times then start it, it fires pretty much right away does anyone have any ideas or advice thanks

There's a check valve in the pump that can go bad and what happens is the fuel drains back into the tank after it's shut off. When you go to start it the pump has to fill the lines up with fuel before it can start to build pressure, this will delay the starting. By cycling the key on and off you are filling the lines up with fuel and helping it to build pressure. You have to replace the pump to fix it or just cycle the key before you start it and take care of that problem if the pump goes out.

I did some checking and that has a returnless fuel system. There's a regulator on the top of the fuel pump assembly that could be bad.
