1990 2.5L wont start... well, will start but not stay running.

Greetings to all!

I hope you can help me out.

I have a 1990 2.5L Jeep Comanche and she wont start anymore. lol

Here it is: In 2001, I blew the engine on a long road trip. I have since rebuilt the bottom end. I had some troubles getting it going at first but once I cranked the engine, it fired up. I didn't drive it much at all for about 6 years but I would start it up. Now, its been about a year since I've last started it and it wont start.... Well, it will start but it will die right away.

The fuel is new. I am bringing in a fuel filter just in case but it was replaced when I rebuilt the motor.

The plugs are fine (except the excess gas on them, which I've now cleaned off), the wires are fine. The cap and rotor are new.

I have been told that it might be a CPS I don't have a crank position sensor on this one (1990).

I have been told that I should check the MAP sensor but wouldnt that just cause rough running or over fuel consumption?

I am at a loss. Please help!

gasoline over time becomes stale and can leave deposits. I would check the fuel pump and injectors

Thanks for the reply. I turned out to be a top o-ring for the fuel injector. Fuel was spewing out the top and causing a miiighty rich mixture. lol

The o-ring was next to impossible to get. I eventually found one at a local auto parts store for $0.25. The dealership wanted $22 and it was 2 weeks away.

Now all I have to work on is my power issues. When I give 'er, it has a massive hesitation. I thought timing at first but that's just fine. Any ideas?
