1989 4.0L no power /no oil pressure

i have a 1989 MJ with some major engine problems and i bought it knowing it needed a new engine, but i couldnt let this one go

its been sitting for 6 months

i drove her home with falling oil pressure only a few miles but it had really bad had power and acceleration so i parked it got some restore and dumped it in

after this it seem to get worst and, has no power now

i wondering if anyone has an idea whats wrong and what are my options to fix it?

my guess is that the oil pump started to fail for some reason and slowly starved the engine of oil,

previous owner says it was a bearing some place but he had no idea, and his mechanic quoted 1500 for a rebuild and he just wasnt up for it.

sounds pricey i found a shop that will swap in a reman with warranty for 1600

but i just wanna make double sure this engine is dead before i shell out any money

or explore the possibility's on fixing the current motor?

symptoms are

misfiring sounding/ choppy running

no power!

NO oil pressure!

i only went around 7 miles straight home like this and now she is sitting

im thinking about dropping the pan tomorrow to inspect the oil pump/ see if any metal parts are mashed up

any advise is greatly appreciated
Thanks JP!

Sounds like it is dead to me. You could pull the head and the oil pan and inspect the carnage.

sounds like it ate the cam;bent some valves; and called it a day .depending on the warranty; that 1600 sounds like a good price . they doing the rebuild? or they buying a long block?

just reread ; they 're buying long block . i'd go that route; unless you can get one yourself and do the work .

what do you think a stroker would cost? and do you know any good builders?

i might go that way, if the engine is coming out might as well do something cool with it.
