1976 t0 1981 304 rear main seal

Is the 1976 thru 1981 CJ 304 rear main a rope or formed rubber? I have a 1965 AMC Ambassador 327 (AMC) convertible. OE is a rope seal. They all leak. Timken has a formed seal to replace the rope seal......with some alteration. The seal, 5112S, also fits the 304. My question.....is the 304 OE seal rope or formed? Also, can anyone tell me the diameter of the crankshaft seal surface at the rear main? I want to compare the 304 to the 327.

Dan
