its nice, if you ever get it. they are not know for fast shipping and customer service. TMR also makes a shave kit. Barnes makes a nice cover that allows you to shave the housing down without having to weld in a plate. there is lots of good discussion about this on pirate.
to answer your original question, the Detroit on the 14b actually goes inside the carrier (much like an automatic locker does in a dana carrier). the carrier does not need to be shaved at all to clear the ballistic shave kit, only the ring gear.

I'm picking up mine Saturday for one hundred. He said it sat outside for a year or two but the cover has never been off of it. Is there anything in particular I should look for to make sure it isn't a piece of scrap?

My friend gave me 2 37" Iroks for free so I ordered 2 more boggers in the same size. Later on Once I get a better flow of income and a more built rig I'll run the 40's If I can fit them on the lift I'm going to order hopefully soon.
Truly jealous, around here Dana 30's fetch twice what you paid for a real axle.
I just traded a disco 30 for another ford 9. I can't believe the prices in other places. All out junkyards have gone up also. Runs a couple hundred for a junkyard axle also. Never have good stuff either. I wish I could trip over a 14b at the yard.
