'12 JK v '03 TJ Rubicon MPG

I'd heard the new Pentastar motor should get improved MPG. But, my first 2 tanks with the new Rubicon were a disappointing 16 MPG. That's what I got with the old '03 Rubicon. I've averaged 17 MPG on my '07 and '09 4-door JK's.

After an easy first 1,000 miles I took the '12 Rubicon out on a 130-mile dirt section of the Pony Express Trail. I drove it hard and towed out two disabled vehicles. MPG shot up to 20 on the next tank (yes, calculated by hand and not by the display).

I took the '12 on a 820-mile round trip to Las Vegas last weekend and averaged 21 MPG.

BTW - I keep the cruise well in the "green zone" at 65 MPH on the freeway.
