Invest in a roll cage

Here's a prime example of having a well built rig without a full roll cage.
Yet, He did an "extreme course" without thinking about his safety of a full roll cage.
If he had a full roll cage it would have been a lot safer for him & I am sure he was telling himself
"Man I should have had a full roll cage or this would have never happened"
Well, He did think of using a helmet and his stinger helped a lot on the roll.
You will also notice that the radiator hoop and flat fenders did its job very well in
protecting the hood and the sides of the jeep.

Grrrr... I never understood why offroaders spend big bucks on all their mods on their rigs and skimp out or wait on adding full roll cage.

Note to all ...If you build your rig for offroading ...Please, Think about your well being and your passangers, Build a Roll Cage to protect your lives.
Big Lifts, Big Tires, Lockers and others won't save your life if you roll your rig.
The Roll Cage that you Invest in...WILL. ( we hope so ) Think Smart and Invest in a Cage before its to late. And, We sure do not ever want to see or hear about those incidents because, they did not have one.

Invest in a full roll cage!

So everyone will be informed, this is an advanced amateur offroader on those pictures. This is just an example about a full roll cage.
*This has nothing to do with our club*

By the way...I got a full 6 point welded roll cage along with a front stinger, radiator hoop and flat fenders so, I am fully protected.

I hear ya. I think the reason we all wait is because of the high costs involved with modifying our jeeps. Everyone wants the performance first, and with many mods costing 1000$ + it's hard enough to scrape up the money for the bigger lift, tires etc. ....let alone money for a cage.

But, for anyone who is interested I found one from this guy out of michigan http://motors.shop.ebay.com/merchant/kozoffroad . It is 1.75X.120 wall DOM which is what you wanna use. Also he includes more bars (such as dash bar, spreader bars, and rear bar) which most other companies charge extra for...alot extra. Mine was 299 plus 50 shipping...Grab handles are an extra 16 each I think. I originally planned on building it myself but I woulda had 200 in materials, plus would have to bend, cut, and notch everything myself.

This is the video that made me really think about roll over protection, and eventually drop the coin to get one. Smoke and I are planning on running this trail when we go to EJS in April.

Would have been toast without the sportcage.

Here's another link that 4xcrazyXJ-Zach has started with lots of pictures and roll overs.
I posted several videos of roll overs on that thread.

The problem I see with some of these "full" cages, is that they're still not tied into the frame. You gotta do that or else your still gonna be in for a hell of a ride.

I haven't done any mods to my cage yet. But plan to do something like mike's, but also tie it into the frame. (not saying mikes isn't, just not sure)

So how did the driver end up when it was all over? I'm not a hardcore off roader or an expert but it looks like the stock roll bar held up to a decent degree.

Those stock cages (even though no tied into the frame) seem to hold up pretty good in most non extreme off-roading cases except for those stupid windshield bars. They always fold along with the windshield coming back at you and then slicing you up.

I am not saying that the stock cages are sufficient for off-road use. I am just saying that those family style roll cages have probably saved a number of lives already. But I am positive that they have gotten ripped off before because they are not tied into the frame.

one other option other than tying a roll cage into a frame is tying it into the seats and making basically a pod. Where if you were in a bad roll your cage would break off of the chassis and you would remain in your seat and cage. almost like

well not exactly like that but based around same principle.

The only problem with that design is that you may end up rolling all the way down the hill. (probably at a much faster rate)

That pic, and Eddie's quote make me want to get one of those huge plastic bubble balls and roll down one of those huge hills in the Dunes at the Badlands. That would be so much fun. LOL

"LCOG" isn't cheap and it certainly isn't easy. If you think so, you are doing it wrong. If you aren't willing to put in the effort, don't label your build "LCOG". You are just a cheap ******bag.
