Heck if I know. But I'll tell ya...the governor kicking in is a scary even the first time it happens.
But 90 on the speedo...so about 80-82. And that's scarily unstable and some white knuckle driving. |

Rev limiters and speed governors were designed to give phords and chebbies half a chance at passing Jeeps and Mopars on the road! ![]() ![]() ![]()

Wait so when the governor kicks in does it jolt the jeep? Or do you just stop going any faster?

Before lifting I hit around 110 (figured using tach). Could have gone a little faster, but a turn was coming and I'm not suicidal. After lifting 2", throwing on 30's, and taking off airdam, the fastest I've gone is right about 100 (again figured using tach), but at 7500 feet elevation that's about all it has the power for. And I wouldn't want to go any faster frankly.
Off-topic, when driving an 08 audi tt with the 3.2, i breezed past 100 like my jeep does with 40mph . |

Rev limiters generally just prevent the engine rpm's from increasing - it hit's a certain rpm and just stops at that rpm. Governers on the other hand have a tendency to basically shut the engine off which causes jolting back and forth as the engine quits and restarts.

~ 85 mph on the interstate. At the time, I didn't realize I was going that fast. I can't remember which got my attention first - my XJ having a seizure or the flashing lights in my rear view

I'm reasonably certain my YJ could reach 212 MPH.
That is, "if" it was able to reach Terminal Velocity after driving it off El Capitan. Of course, that sudden deceleration at the bottom would really scratch the paint. ![]() In reality, it'll go faster than I feel comfortable. On an open straight stretch of unoccupied divided 4-lane, I took it up to 75 MPH on the speedo, 90 MPH actual using a speedo check calculator for my 33" tires. If the factory settings on the speedo were anywhere near accurate, that's more than fast enough for me in my YJ. My Jeep's for the scenic route. If I want to get somewhere fast on pavement, I'll take my truck and live to tell about it. ![]()

Nope. I average about 600-700 highway miles weekly. The 4.10s are plenty for get up and go power while averaging about 18-19mpg's. I rarely go above 70 anyways.

I'm on an OME 3-3.5" lift and 32x10.5 super swampers and cruise the highways at 75-78 MPH easily... No vibes and handles great!
I'm not stupid though and wouldn't want to try it at any faster speeds... I wasn't paying attention one day and was in the mid-80s before I slowed down... that's pretty darn good with a 3.5" lift and super swampers and no vibes or anything. My 2 cents!
