I cruise on the highway at 80 all the time, 85 is the highest I've been.

I almost hit 70 on the highway, downhill with a tailwind. . . Almost. lol Seriously though, I think I top out at around 75, but when the wind starts blowing or I have to go uphill, that drops to about 60 really quick. lol

I usually cruise at 60-70 and I never really go any faster than 75 in my YJ as it was not designed for speed and it burns too much gas and is a little too squirly any faster. Though out of curiosity on a deserted road once I brought it up to 95 (and probably had a little bit more to go if I wanted) but I realized at that speed I really did not want to go faster in my YJ, and that I had no prayer of recovering if somethign went wrong (flat tire for instance), so I slowed down. I do have to admit that going 95 with the doors off and top down was one hell of a rush.
On a side note, in my dads old XJ (which I had up to 105 a couple times) I once blew a tire at 90-95. And I mean blew a tire as in all the tread blew off and only part of the sidewall was left on the rim. Though I was able to hold it and get to the side of the road safely and with out further incident. Since then I try not to go faster in a vehicle than I know I could recover from if something were to go wrong.

75 on the interstate. Scared the crap out of myself after it started shaking and vibrating violently. I think I'll just go the usual 55 on the interstate and let everybody pass me.
At least I get to wave! |

When I regeared my speedo gear was waay off. I wanted to see how high it would go. It got about an inch past the 100mph mark and then the governor kicked in.

I had a chance to participate in the Michigan State Police vehicle evaluation program a few years ago. It was held on the track at Mich. International Speedway in Brooklyn Mi. and included several XJ Jeep Cherokee Police Specials in the evaluation fleet. To everyones surprise the XJ was able to make 116 MPH in four wheel drive high. We sold about 400 XJ Police packages to the attendees from that event over the next six months. It was interesting that they were more impressed with the Cherokee's ability to cross the median nearly anywhere and quickly reach 80 mph than with the top speed.

i usually set my cruise control at 80 on the interstate, though i have been past the 100mph mark on my speedo - that was scary. i felt like i was sitting in a massage chair.
(i guess they removed the speed limiter in 06's?) |

I've hit 100 which is where my speedo stops, so faster than that because i still had some juice left. Had to get a buddy to the hospital when he cracked his head falling off my friends back porch...

In my WJ with 5.5" long arms and 32's, the limiter kicked in at 118, so from the stock tire size (235/65/17) and gearing (3.73), that speed that is translated from stock to modified is the speed I was going.
In my TJ before my heavy tires, the limiter kicked in at 90, now I'm lucky to get 85 with the pedal to the floor going down a hill
