security system vs lojack?

ok so basically i just got a 2001 XJ and i will be up in richmond va for school. richmond isnt the nicest city in the world, its not really hard core but ya its kinda ghetto.

the vehicle i drove before had a security system (with no over ride and no valet switch) and it started to get annoying, wouldnt have minded it if i could turn it off but ya.

so basically im asking would it be worth it to get the lojack with the early alert features or just get a beep beep security system. both of them would be getting installed by carmax (since i bought the jeep there and it will be covered under warranty), also my insurance would give a 60-80 buck/year break for lojack but nothing for a security system.

suggestions?

or should i just wait the 2 years and get a CCW and go that way

-matt

Well its really a matter of what you want, do you want to get your car back after it's stolen, or prevent it from being stolen. Ideally speaking, it be great to have both. The early alert lojacks on the other hand are pretty good. especially if your insurance won't discount you with a typical alarm, roll with the lojack with early alert. One other option that my boy did to his Ford ranger, hide a kill switch in the truck somewhere, wired to the fuel pump.

I have to agree with TrailKillr, keep in mind the Car alarm doesn't have to be expensive since it's just a deterrent. I've seen them go as cheap as $50 and you can wire it yourself if you know a little about wiring. Viper has a nice GPS tracking security system that covers it all. KillSwitch, GPS and Regular alarms including glass-break sensors and bump detection, just make sure you turn the sensitivity down because if it's all the way up a hard wind could set it off.

You can be sued and will probably lose. It's been through the courts before.
