quest to 14's

iv read about alot of people getting into the 14's with there xj. I have a few different options here. i notice my 96 2dr 4wd 5-speed is a fairly quick machine, i raced my fathers 91 integra that had i/e and i could pull on him slightly.

Well i figured the way it sat with a cheezy intake and mild exhaust it would have been around the 16.0-16.2 area.

i was debating on 3 different things or 2 of the 3.

i have an M62 supercharger from a 95 riviera in my garage i could make work on the jeep. i know its kind of small but it came off the 3.8 so its not too far off the 4.0

second option i was thinking of trying to do full exhaust, some sort of ram air setup, cam and valvetrain. which i dont think will get me near the 14's but maybe?

last was possibly full bolt ons and a dry 50 shot? how strong are these motors? i dont usually pound my cars hard but i have some friends i want to mess with a little mostly 14.5-15.0 cars

With my jeep loaded down (400-500lbs in the back) i could pull away from my bosses 98 v6 5-speed SR5

Sorry if this topic has been beat to death, i searched for a few hours tonight on cam setups and 14 sec passes.

I think the most you could pick up with bolton is 240 or so, see where that takes you I guess.

with full boltons (along with a junkyard gear setup) you should manage 14's with decent traction.

Well the easiest way would be nitrous but if i can get by with a cam and bolt ons then ill do that. i have never had a 4.0 apart but it is an OHC style engine? im probably going to pop the valve cover off and see what it looks like.

no it is not an ohc style engine you can clearly see that just by looking at it the cam is in the bottom....

now these engines are pretty tough so...if you are only care about getting into the 14's I say nitrous is a a pretty good choice it's just you won't have the power all the time. Which is not a bad thing your mpg won't suffer unless you use it.....

just my opinion though I would toss some shorter gears under it, do a stroker, get some sticky tires and be done with the 14's of course that would be a little bit more than you are probably looking to spend. but it would be well worth it

well i dont want to build up the motor and you cant always tell a motor is or is not an ohc style by looking at it... but ill have to look up a diagram so i know what im looking at.

ill probably end up using nitrous... what kind of kits do most 4.0 guys use? ZEX? if i can find a used kit, thats probably the route ill go.

well, the main giveaway for an OHC motor is the valve cover....if it doesnt look like it could fit a cam gear, then its not an OHC...

You could really use any kind of kit depending on how "smart" you want the kit to be...N.O.S. has alot of accessories and a pretty decent reputation..(and its the system i used on my 90'XJ)

i'd say easiest way would be to do a full exhust system a good intake system, nice tires and a good shot of nitrous. also i'd get good spark plugs and everything to support the nitrous system. the 4.0 is pretty strong and ca take some abuse but like any stock engine if you run a 250 shot though it you'll blow that thing up lol.

I have a buddy that has a 92 2D XJ that runs 11.8 and 116MPH with a 200 shot on a v8 with 5in lift and 31in tires. There is a video of his run. But now that motor is in a 87 rx7 and that run a 11.1 on motor and a 10.7 on spray

My friend WJ with the 4L and a 90 shot ran a 14.76 in the 1/4. His had a exhaust W/cutout, ported TB and a B&G tuned PCM and intake.
