You are right any thing will make a good drag car if you spend 20k on chassis and set up

Right but I didnt say drag car, I said hot rod. Doesnt have to go down the track in 10 seconds to be a fun and quick ride.
However I actually only want the DJ grill fenders and hood and would prefer a cj5/cj7 tub. (the DJ has a door opening that goes to the floor, that I dont like) I havent actually done any research on any of it and dont know if I ever will. I have lots of other projects first.

Years ago I saw a DJ at a used car lot, it was converted to left hand drive no top a simple cage and a 4.0L 5 speed. It was very basic and still 2wd with big rear tires and small skinny fronts. On the rear it had a small embelem that said "BEACHJEEP by *******" The name eludes me right now. Anyway after test driving it, I have since wanted to do something simular. It was a fun Zippy little street jeep. With a mild v8 and an auto trans it could have been even more fun.

Sorry for the side track.

Runs nice and having fun with it. Next is changing the rear suspension to coi8ls so it will be more comfortable.

Hope your holidays are going well, and Happy New Year

i am glad i looked in on this. i have been contemplating what to do with my yj since i do not off road it. i had thought of swapping the front axle since i don't have a drive shaft on it anymore. i put a 302 and a c6 in it and never had the front drive shaft made because i just never thought i would use 4x4. i do have the t-case in but just because it was part of hte powertrain i bought.

the v8 is a lot more fun to drive.

I don't feel like working on anything at this time so i sold my yj.

That is a custom aluminum mesh cover with an aluminum frame around it, riveted in place. I wanted something to keep stones, leaves and debris from getting in the big factory openings

Definitely a good idea. At our end of the year bash we went to, I had to abort a run, and lost a windshield and turning signal due to rocks. Luckily nothing hit the radiator.

They sell mesh covers but I did not like the way they looked. Plus they had ugly openings for the hood release. I relocated my release to under the passanger side fender. Just a metal rod attashed to the release going through a hole in the fenderwell.

Thanks. I am thinking of taking it off and removing the inner panals, which are blocking some air, then reinstalling it. This time I will use rivit nuts, to make it easily removable.
