I've got the same, 2012 wrangler JK and i ordered tires today. 285/70/R17 from all the research I've done and what I've heard from tire guys and my dealer they will fit no problem with aftermarket wheels. (i think you'll have issues with rubbing on stock wheels unless you get spacers) I'm eventually looking to lift but I'm planning on riding without one for a while.

I have an 05 TJ and you should be able to go to 30 / 9.50 -15's with no problem.

JK is a somewhat different situation than your TJ.

97 TJ Sport - 4.0/HP D30 w ARB/8.8 w LS/4.88s; 35s and flat fenders on 2.5 lift

84 CJ7; frame off restoration in progress.

The technical advice you get from me here is worth exactly what you paid me for it. Warranty issues will be reimbursed at double what you paid me for the advice.
