Have you ever taken your Jeep down the 1/4 mile, or is there any way you could do it before and after you put the cam and ported head on? I'm really interested in seeing how much you gain from doing this because I have a heavily ported head on my 4.0 and honestly the damn thing isn't a lot faster than a stock 4.0. To prove my point, my Jeep ran a best of 16.58 @ 81 in only 1700d/a, so even at sea level, in like 50 degree temps, with no humidity it would only run a 16.28. To me that seems pretty pathetic considering my motor is bored out .040 over (~30k on rebuild, and has had full tuneup in last 10k), I have a bored tb, a gutted cat and 2.25" catback, the 99+ intake, and I took the dent out of the stock downpipe. I also ran without the spare and I'm on 225/75/15s. Basically what I'm trying to say is that I hope your head work and cam don't prove to be as useless as my modifications did.

No I haven't taken it to the strip. All I know is that my jeep right now can beat cars that are supposed to be in the mid to high 15 sec 1/4 mile range.

Hahahaha, yeah I know all about that, I beat a couple of "15 second cars", the problem was that their drivers sucked.

hmm...ive mentioned this before. where was the porting done? was a flow bench used? and did it receive a polish?

a port job can actually hinder performance if not done properly. are you using stock valves in your head? factory exhaust manifold?

because with a 2wd XJ, your times dont seem right. especially with the .040 rebuild.

My XJ is 4wd, and it was home ported & the exhaust ports were polished until they were smooth and shiny, the intakes were left a little rougher. I can post pics of it to show how much work was done, but it really says nothing of the flow characteristics because it was never tested on a flow bench. Oh, the combustion chambers were also polished & stock valves were used.

You need to free up that exhaust a bit more...

Also, how bad are you spinning with those 225's? My street 235's don't even give me enough traction...but then again, mine's a comanche so their is no weight over the rear in comparison.

Regardless, throw on 2.5" cat back, and potentially get some better tires and you should be well into the 15's. Also, what intake are you running? I'm assuming at the very least a k&n drop in?

^I was launching at 13-1400rpm with no wheelspin, any higher and I was spinning like crazy and in the 17s. The intake at the time was totally stock (silencer included) with a new paper filter. I did at one point put a k&n cone on but it honestly wasn't any faster, and throttle response seemed worse, maybe due to not having a heat shield on it. I might try a different cat back and the intake again with a heat shield, but I'm really not too optimistic about the outcome. On a side note, does anyone here notice that their xj shifts faster and harder in the 3 position than it does in drive?
