I have been thinking about getting this cam from clifford. http://cliffordperformance.net/Merch...ategory_Code=J First I was wondering how hard it is to remove the old cam. i know i have to remove the head to get the lifters out and remove the radiator to get the cam in and out but was wondering how much more i need to do. Also would the gains be worth the $200 and how do you think it would idle? Lastly is there anything else i should upgrade while i am at it, like roller rockers, etc?

Forget roller rockers, as it is pretty much a waste of money for the performance you will get out of them. With that cam though, you will need stiffer springs, and to be honest, you won't get all the performance out of that cam since you can't spin upto 5500 (but it will most likely pull like a mofo to redline). If you are going that route, I would get the head worked over a bit. Nice port job, clean up the bowls, maybe larger valves. I haven't heard of anyone using that cam because it is for the upper RPM range. Should help the breathing up top

good point...but the power band for the cam is 2,500 rpms to 5,500 rpms. i was also thinking about putting bigger valves since in 99' they put in smaller valves...or so i have heard

the rockers would be a good idea, but not necessary. thats still not a *huge* cam by any means, but id get a set of stiffer springs, new retainers. and i wouldn't worry about doing head work till perhaps you started going into the bottom end.
for the record, i cut a cam for my xj (91) that was designed to produce a similar power band to this one. to me for a stock motor with some bolt ons, it seemed to be a bit much for it. just not enough usable power ,started to pick up great rwhp and rwtq up around 3100 rpms though and was still a nice flat curve going right up into 5200 rpms. only problem was, 2k of usable power band isn't really worth all the work it took for me to cut the cam and the research. im going more for a single duration cam for motor only applications. something around the 216-220 @ .050, also looking at 110-112 lobe seperation angles too.
teal shot me some links to a couple cams that seem to be more suited for a stock motor (bottom end esp.). Id personally look for something a tad smaller, and try to keep the power band between 2k and 5k (truck cams typically produce steady torque curves starting aroudn 1500 through 4k) im thinking this sort of cam would be more beneficial.
just remember you dont want to look just at peak numbers. the big story lays with the average under teh curve
Good luck bro!
Travis

look into June 2006 Jp Magazine. They did a cam swap. It's very involved. You have to remove the intake head, the valve heads, and much of the front accessories. Also, you have to reposition the pushrods exactly how they came out, or there will be bad times. I'd have my guy do it, I'd just bring him the cam and ask him to supply the labor.

SPOBI!
stock pressed steal rockers, w/ stock springs, start flexing around 3000 rpm. theres no reason NOT to get roller rockers.
