Cheap Performance Upgrades
Hey everyone I'm new to the site and I am hoping yall can help me out. I have a 1988 XJ with the 4.0. As far as engine goes I have a header and custom exhaust, throttle body spacer, and a K&N air filter. I have started to get into the mud drags and I am wanting to soup up the engine a little. I dont want to spend a WHOLE lot of money but I am open to suggestions. If you have any ideas as far a hp/torque gain or whatever then please tell me. THANKS!!!

Welcome to the boards!
![]() I too, am running an '88 Renix 4.0 and I hate to tell you this, you've pretty much done all the cheap performance upgrades already. Besides a bored TB of course, which is somewhat hard to find for the renix, but you can obtain one on ebay. Then there is port polishing, cams, etc. but that is a lot more than a cheap bolt-on. The best thing to do however is either go the supercharger route (if kits are still in production) or the stroker route which many have taken successfully. Neither will be cheap, though.
