I used to have two 1976 DJ5-Ds. We cut the top off of one with a sawzaw and mounted an M1919 .30 cal machine gun in the back on a swivel stand. The machine gun was set up to fire short bursts of propane at a rate of fire similar to the live ammo one and sounded the same. The project got pushed aside and we ended up scrapping the jeeps after awhile, but it was fun having them to work on

Hello from MI. I too have a DJ5. DJ-5M with an earlier 6cyl and tranny.

I like the gray. I was thinking about the same color - flat gray or flat black - on mine this year. I need to post a photo.

I'm getting ready to buy my first jeep and it is going to be a DJ mail jeep as well. I would love all the information I can get. I actually have a question for you eexperienced members. How hard would it be to drop in a 64 Mopar slant 6 engine instead?

The reason why I want to put in a slant 6 is because I already have one with shelves of performance parts. I haven't been able to find any performance parts for the amc inline 6.

We are rebuilding a 1973 DJ5...

Hello Every one!
This is my first post/reply, and have absolutely no idea how this works, so I hope I get it right.
I wonder if someone can tell me where I can purchase:
Cluster, Gear and Cable
Thank you,
cisci

I'll be picking up my first Jeep this weekend. It is a 1984 Jeep DJ-5M and will be used for delivering the mail in rural NE Ohio. I'm meeting the owner in central Ohio and am planning on driving the Jeep back to Cleveland. I've heard that these aren't made for highway driving. Any truth to that? This ought to be interesting.

I made it back home with the DJ-5M. It was okay to 55 mph but the body would shake if I went any faster. It probably needs body bushings or something like that.
