98 Sport vs. Explorer sport

My buddy just got an explorer sport with the 4.0 v6. Hes talkin all this game that hes gonna smoke me. Ive been in it, it does feel kinda quick. My jeep is a 5spd 4.0. What do you think the outcome will be?

your xj (if 2wd weights a lot less then the explorer) you will win unless you suck at driving a stick

Is it the pushrod 4.0, or SOHC 4.0?

The pushrod ones only made 158 HP, the SOHC's made 205-210 depending on year.

Most of the SOHC's have steeper gears (ours has 4.10's) and a 5 speed auto. It will move out off the line faster than my XJ will, but I think anything aside from off the line my Jeep could take it.

Race him anyway, they are both slow SUV's.

my friends explorer is SLOW AS HELL he has 160 hp and 220 ft-lbtorque on a 4200lb body that, if your friend's engine is anyway similar this should be an easy one

just from my experience with a 4.0 ranger vs my 4.0 xj, i killed it like it was nothing...and i am sure it weighs a lot less then an explorer

I think itd be the opposite, the XJ would win up top and the Explorer off the line.

I see your running 31's, thatll throw the feeling off alot. Stock for stock I think itd be the opposite though.

If your REALLY racing it doesnt matter how much quicker the Explorer is, cause they cut off at like 98mph... XJ has about 18mph more to go on him, lol.

o in that case it might be closer if it has thatmuch power but it is still a boat compared to you, weight is at your advantage you have like 1000lbs less

that won't even be a close race....n20jeep is not going to race me because i am 2wd and he is 4wd and that is only a few hundred pounds difference in weight and it will be that one sided....so 1000lbs is a huge difference

given power to weight ratios and the fact that you can own him off the line with 4wd if yo so choose i dotn think it should be too hard to beat him... ive beat a 5.0 exploder atuomatic with my jeep, barely, but still won
