The filter seems fine to me, i don't imagine any issues with it. Hard to tell power with a lifted jeep; it was never fast to begin with. The way I see it, the 4.0 is nearly impossible to squeeze any more power out of, unless you stroke or boost it, so any power gains to me were probably minimal. The benefit of extra room in the bay, a higher air inlet for the engine, and some bling sold me.

So would I. The plasma i used was a friends dads, and after spending some time with it...holy hell, i need one. Also really need to invest in a good compressor. Everything else was just collected over the years.

So a couple things I'm kicking around.
  • Rocker sliders
  • Tire carrier (sucks having no spare)
  • Truss/sleeve D30 - No flak required; I have it, it's geared/locked, no sense in replacing it just yet. Going to try and give it a boost of reliability.
  • Chromo D30 - again, I'm worried about busting axles, i don't even have spares for the trail
  • Rear Disk swap
  • Injector upgrade/+99 mani

Any feedback? I'm just looking for excuses to mod

Sliders in my opinion are mandatory... there's no such thing as too much armor.
Tire carrier is a bonus, I'm currently running w/o a spare too, and would like to have one as well.
Go sick with the 30 man... trussing and sleeving it, with chromoly's will make it an awesome axle.
Rear disk swaps are tricky, gotta do everything perfectly to get good results. Do your homework there, but i'd put this towards the bottom of the list.
Injector mods are cool, not sure about the gain though...from what I hear its mostly a smoother idle.

Alright so I finally got a couple of things done. I'm decided on doing slider/rocker guards out of 2x6. They will have stringer that tie into the frame. Also a tire carrier is in the works since it sucks always worrying about that. Both require a trip down to the metal supplier when we get our design all mapped out.

Well enough "will do", and let's show some progress. Ordered some frame stiffeners from HDOffroadengineering. Threw some paint on the backsides to prevent rust.

Cleaned off the areas of the frame that will get welded.

I got one side fully welded. I had to modify my transfer case skid, and will paint them when I get done welding my rocker reinforcements to them. Hoping to finish the other side on Sunday, then move onto tire carrier design.

I also scored some injectors this last weekend, and have rebuild kits on the way.

Stay tuned

Looks good man, looking forward to your slider build. I got some 2x4 3/16th wall square tube and couple sticks of 1 1/4 x 1/4 angle to weld it too. Unfortunately I don't have access to a welder like I would like to for this part so the project is on hold right now.

Rebuilt my 703 injectors, including new pintle caps, o-rings, and filter baskets. I also back and forward flushed them with brake cleaner.

My setup:

And fresh clean injectors waiting install:

Thanks!

Yes, i was going to link in the info that i dug up for it, and i don't know why i forgot.

I took my notes from this :

and this:

Basically i pulled the injector filter and rings off, and gave it a quick shot with brake cleaner. I cut down an oring that fit perfectly into a syringe i modified, like shown. I always back flushed first, to ensure i wasn't forcing garbage through the tiny 4 holes in the injector. Then i forward flushed them. Reassemble. One thing that ISN'T mentioned in these videos is DO NOT leave the injector in the on position. It heats it up very quickly and is NOT how they are designed to operate. Pulse them at different intervals to avoid damaging them.

Pretty simple really.

I realized its been a while since I've posted a somewhat recent pic of the jeep as a whole, although not much has changed. But this thread needs more pics.

Killer XJ bud! I might have to think about the hood vent mod you did - fabbed some hood spacers for mine for now but the way you went about it looks good, effective, and cheap

Thanks! I saw your build with those spacers, and I liked the idea. No cutting of a hood, cheap, reversible I guess since mine is more of a wheeler and less of a DD, I wasn't too concerned with cutting my hood, but your method is good for those that don't want to go that far.

Finished my injectors, fired up and runs, no leaks. Hoping they help a bit in the mpg/drivability. Also finished my frame plating, and buttoned everything back together. So while working under there, I saw some evidence of this jeeps history. I love to think of the kind of "life" that vehicles go through; owners, where it's been, what it was used for... Every vehicle has an interesting life, and if they could talk, I'd love to hear the story behind this;

I'm no forensic detective, but that looks like a .40cal or 9mm fired from the inside passenger area, through the floor!! I can imagine that was a little loud. No signs of blood, so it might have just been an "oh ****" moment.

Will soon be turning focus to the slider build.

Mine has a .44 cal bullet hole in the hatch. Shot from the outside, through the hatch panel and into the sub box that the PO left in there. I also found a number of .22LR rounds under the rear seat and carpet! The stories behind these are endless.

In preparation for my sliders, I decided to pull my flares off. They'll need to be modified to fit, plus I knew that the previous owner didn't do a great job of installing them. And by NOT great, I mean body work with with a chainsaw, after 10 beers

Someone didn't learn in 1st grade how to stay in the lines

Fender liner hanging

So I'm thinking the remedy for these is to recut them with a jigsaw, or die grinder to fix the horrid lines. I know it wont be visible when the flares are back on, but that's just **** work, and i can't stand that.

Where he cut through the inner fender pocket, I'm thinking of taking some 2" wide straps of sheet metal and patching that all up, so water/mud isn't making its was in there.
