I picked up a welder from Harbor Freight over the weekend and will be putting it to use this weekend I hope. I bought the Rusty's lower control arm mounts over the weekend and they should be here tomorrow. I also got the SYE that I ordered from IRO. I think that I will be doing the control arms this Friday then maybe out to Hidden Falls this weekend for the Wheeler's for the Wounded. If I'm not able to go then I will also do the SYE on Saturday.

Got the lower control arm mounts put on yesterday.

These things took a good beating the last 13 years.

Just finished the SYE today.

Thanks Mobbin.

I had the pleasure tonight of changing the harmonic balancer in the parking lot of an Autozone. Only took me about 3.5 hours to change, and buying a bunch of tools that I already had a couple of at the house. I guess the XJ needs a tool box to hold them all.

On the happy side it does seem to idle a little better now with it changed.

Those welds on the lower control arm mounts have no penetration, I would not trust them. Something as critical as those mounts was not the place to start with a Harbor Fright welder and no experience welding. Not trying to flame you here but that’s a life or death mount at highway speed. I would cut them off and have a shop/ good welder burn them on.

I can't really tell about the quality of the weld from the picture but I agree that's a job for an experienced pro. Axle tubes are especially tricky

I did not do the welding myself on these. I had a friend that was a welder in a previous job. As he was welding on the outside I watched the inside of the mounts and saw the penetration of the weld as he burned it in. He also welded outside on the mount then came back and welded on the inside of the mount. I don't think that they will have any problems.

I'm just down the street in Webster. Would be fun. Looking at crashing the topless weekend the local wrangler guys have on the 18th down in Galveston.

Sounds like a blast! Maybe my dad will be there.. For your sake I hope you don't meet him. He's one of the ones that likes everything chrome on a jeep... And if you wheel a jeep you're a bad person in his eyes...

I can't even tell you how many times I've gotten in trouble for taking my jeep offroad (not even hard stuff... In talking like, driving in fields) he would kill me if he found out I'm taking my jeep to the Canadian river
