Have you popped the cover? If so anything besides spiders will be apperant. And at high miles its worth doing a lube change

The only thing that's been indicated to me is if the rtv is any color at all, its been opened by somebody...it's red. Opening a diff would be new territory for me, so I'd rather do it with someone who knows what I'd be lookin' at. I'm pretty sure all my fluids could stand to be changed: tranny, transfer, and diffs.

He runs welded front and rear and it is sweet. Cheap and strong. Not a Dana 44 but still.
How are you "popping" unit bearings? I don't believe this. I've killed one set. And that was because I used to think mud was cool. If you play in a lot of mud, they won't last, and neither will hubs on a 44. As for the spool, it will suck to turn in 4wd. Unlike a lunch box or auto locker, it's still there even when you do let off. I would never spool a front, even with lock outs.

Maybe he's jumping his jeep, that's how I destroyed mine. If you torque the nut correctly and don't get cheap Chinese hubs they will last a long time.

I agree. Torque them right and get good ones. Though I've jumped mine a lot, especially lately, and haven't had any trouble yet.

I don't know. I don't do much mud any more. But the small with on my tires they seem to get bound up a lot. And they wear out so fast it's not funny. I had a set of timkens they had 10k on them when I got them. They wore out after mabell I have a lot of play in them and its getting old. I got pinched in a rock ledge their and it just ripped it up. It seems to work alright with what I have seen. With sis a group I wheel with the common setup is a spool and lock outs up front and. A Detroit or lunchbox in back.

And no I haven't sly driven in a good while. A lot of one wheel pop ups though.

Um, Currie JJ's? I've never seen one wear out. If it did, they make a rebuild kit...
