Skip the db's at your height. Get control arms with JJ's at each end. Make sure you are actually using your shock completely up. As in, at full bump, make sure there is almost no shock shaft left. Also, trim your lower shock mounts so the CA will clear it. Bump stop correctly. Get a double shear track bar. Get crossover steering. I could keep going....

DB are still a good idea, even with adjustable control arms.

I have a double shear tb
Would Hiems work?
I haven't maxed out a shock
I'm bump stopping with a reasonable fender trim to keep them happy
Cross over steering I'm debating Hiems vs 1 ton

Are you asking if Heims would work on a CA? If that's your question, then ye answer is yes. As for steering, what do you mean "Heims vs. 1 ton"? You can run Heims on most any setup, including a 1 ton setup. That's what I run.

I'd suggest running upgraded steering on anything over 31's honestly. I've seen an XJ bend a stock tie rod on 32s like it was made of rubber. When it comes to what setup to run, I'd suggest a complete setup that includes a tie rod and drag link, just because once you upgrade one of them, the stronger of the two will end up bending whichever item you left stock. If you want a stock feel but want strength, go Currie. I run the IRO kit and I like it, but it's cross over, not an inverted Y setup like stock. It also runs heims, not TRE's. Some people are against Heims on steering, but I'm not sure why. I like them, though though can get noisy. I'd just suggest to stay away from a an inverted T setup. I ran one once and I hated how it felt. Too much tie rod roll.

So like this set up? http://www.currieenterprises.com/ces...t.aspx?id=1219 (I've eyed it in the past)

I've also thought about this one: http://www.ironrockoffroad.com/Merch...Category_Code=

Which would be better? (If you remember right, my XJ is expedition/overlanding and not strictly crawling)

I am thinking of a v8 tie rod for now

But am wondering how bad would dual Hiems be for a dd on control arms?

Yeah, no on the V8 tie rod. I've never ran it, but there is a thread in NAXJA now where guys are saying it's far from an upgrade, it's just merely an improvement from stock. Main reason being that it has a huge bend in it and that it makes it vulnerable to bending.

I say go for it on the heims. Look at most all 3 link/4 link builds on NAXJA or Pirate. They all run heims on both ends. What's the difference with a stock short arm setup? It's still a TRUE 4 link. Hell, still better than a radius arm . I see no problem.
