And I bought my '90 with 180k for $650. Of course, it had a huge leak in the rear main seal, and the brakes were practically metal-on-metal, and almost every power component didn't work (it didn't even have a horn switch!). On the plus side, it came with 30x9.5 A/Ts. I'm still kind of kicking myself for getting it instead of the '95 sport which was selling for $1100 at the time, though. Especially knowing how horrible the ABS is/was in the 90.
i bought my 01 xj with 78k on it for 10k given thats a carmax price but i also had no issues (well i had a bad ac compressor but it was fixed for free since it wasnt working when i bought it). my mechanic has commented that the jeep looks like its a great shape and that it looks like it was really well taken care of (im not to sure how the maintenance was done, kinda think it was not followed well but im gona baby it so it should last a good long while)
my best fried did sell his 90 XJ to another fried for only 1400 though with about 140k on it but it had an oil leak and needed an alignment really bad, clear coat was peeling and all. it was a pretty solid jeep though (i hope to buy it from friend 2 at some point... just hope it wont be to messed up, or at minimum that the D44 in the back is salvageable, maybe im to sentimental but that jeep has a lot of good memories for me, no homo/ nothing sexual so dont go there, just went a lot of places in that thing)
I picked up my '92 XJ Sport with 133k, pretty stripped down for a case of Coors Light and a case of Miller Light......the paint sucks, no power anything, and a sweet am/fm radio.....
I basically had it parked since Oct '06. I dropped in a new battery, flushed the radiator, changed the oil and dropped on a new Dynomax Super Turbo Exhaust all yesterday and it drives about as good as I could have imagined.
Just bought a 98 with 139k for $3000 . Looks and runs great. Spent couple hundred so far fixing few things. New hood release cable, new driver door master window/lock switch. Flushed coolant and changed all fluids.Puled driver seat out and tore it apart and welded the broken frame . Will do a 3 core rad and new water pump and belt soon.
Tried my hand at charging up the ac system today with mixed results. May just take it in and get a pro to charge it.
I picked up my 99 w/ 112K all stock and the P/O put in a new FP, plugs, wires, ECU, dist. I even tried to tell him how to properly fix it and his response was "I'm just sick of this damn thing, if you want it you can have it for payoff.... $1648" I tossed in a new CPS, and drove it home later that day. Boy was he ever pissed.
i got my xj for free, i win. granted i dumped 4k into it so far...
