I may have to try that sometime... This past weekend I was "hand-holding" mine, and even had my 7 y/o holding the video camera. Neither is an ideal solution, for obvious reasons.
I have an old tripod with a center section that can be raised with a crank handle. I just cranked it up against the ceiling and it's pretty solid. The camcorder is a Canon ZR20 DV I bought at Costco about five years ago. It's old, but it hasn't failed me yet. I like that it can shoot in 4:3 or 16:9 format, even though both are SD only. I think it's time to get a true HD setup. I'll be replacing my current iPhone with the new iPhone 4 that can record 720p HD video, but that doesn't have any kind of image stabilization. Still, it's very small and light, so it might get some good footage from weird angles.

Very clever tripod setup - I may have to try that. My Zi8 camera does a decent job, but doesn't have great stabilization and the HD video isn't as smooth as I would prefer. But for less than $200 it does okay.

This is why I need a decent camera mount:

All things considered, this is pretty good for being recorded by a 7 y/o...

Hehee. Actually, I watched that last night when surfing through the other videos you shared. I'd agree it's not bad for a 7-year old.

Couple highlight videos from our first two comps earlier this month. Posted two 4th place finishes, which we were happy with being our first comps. In the second video we were the only team to do the bonus 12' drop.
