Welcome to the forum! Like many of us, we have had or still have many jeeps......the 4.0 is reliable if taken care of like anything. The only things I have had go wrong with our 98' XJ was the crank sensor, distributor cap, and the a/c loses charge (due to accident in 03). Good luck with what yours brings

The only problems I have had w/ my 98 XJ is that the reverse lights do not come on when backing up, most likely due to the Neutral Safety Switch, and at random times my gauges on my dash like to not work, but a solid shove on the dash fixes it.

i got mine with around 180,000 miles on it... the only out of the ordinary things ive had to do are replace one of my window motors, and now none of my windows are working due to a wiring problem, which i need to take care of.

im on my 2nd 1998 limited. probably my favorite year. you have a good rig. mines got 115k on it and runs real good. i would say watch out for the NSS, power windows, and the fact that the rear hatch isn't fiberglass. theres no resilience whatsoever. my first xj was a 93 and in my opinion, i like the 97+ body style and just the way the interior is set up.

So far my reverse lights cut in and out, my gauges turn on and off, and windows are only controled from driver door. Oh well it happens. For that price you can't complain too much

The NSS are pieces of poop in our jeeps.
