I got it for the wife. After I got my TJ, she got the Jeep bug bad and we found her a 'mommy' car with the XJ. Well, 3 years later, it looks like I am going to be selling my TJ to get her a bigger one, and going to be wheeling the XJ. The XJ is set up better than my TJ anyway - 8.25 rear, HP front, 3.55 gears. Much batter than the 3.07 35/30 combo on the TJ.

I bought mine because the vehicle I was driving at the time was a bright yellow 1993 Toyota mini-van. It drove, but it was an embarrassment everywhere I went. One of my friends was wanting to sell his XJ, so he said he'd take $2,000 and that was just too good of a deal. Black 97 Country with 100k on it for two grand. Not a bad deal.

Got mine because of the tremendous snow we've had the past two winters. My Mini Cooper is really great in just about any snow/ice condition until we got over 5' of snow on the ground. Ruts were just too deep for the Mini. Found a 96 XJ Country in good cosmetic condition but had some oil leaks and needed tires. Pleasently surprised about how agile it is and small footprint/size really impressed me. I've owned Grand Cherokee Ltd, MBZ ML430 and Ford F350 quad cab dsl 4x4's and this is actually the most fun to drive, most maneuverable and enjoyable rig I've had. I'm going to just keep this and keep adding improvements until I'm satisfied that it can do what I want it to do which isn't really all that much. It will be used in the summers to drive down the old country roads I used to ride my Kawasaki KLR650 on (for those young ones who don't know what a KLR5650 is...just a larger off road motorcycle that literally will travel around the world) and get ready for the next winter. By the time I'm done tinkering I figure I'll be in it less than 5k so what a great investment for all the things this does and the way it does them.

Because it was handed to me. My father has a small autobody shop, he bought it for $500 put in a new windshield passanger mirrow and fixed the fender. It is my first car, got it at 16. I learned how to drive stick in that 5 speed compared to my older sibling learning in VW bus. I have XJ fever and dont think i would want anyother 4x4 vehicle. I even have a Yamaha "XJ" Seca as a summer gas saver. I have 200,000 on the jeep and I want it to last my lifetime.

I bought mine because it's 4WD, practical for me (unlike a Wrangler, although I love them), came with a lift kit and 31" tires, and it was fairly cheap in this area at $4000. Also, because its a JEEP!!

I totaled my previous car--a 2003 Toyota Celica GT-S--and decided to get a beater until I finish up college. The Cherokee is about as different from the Celica as two cars can be: big, bad on gas, plenty of torque, unequivocally manly, cheap, etc. And yet I can't help but love it so far.

I bought my XJ because my YJ kept getting broken into & I wanted some semblance of security, even though I never left anything of value in my old YJ. Damn kids~

i bought mine because i wanted an SUV that had 4x4 to take me to the golf course and over mountain passes to go snowboarding. Found one in a local car dealership and loved it. i had seen it before but somehow it didnt register that it was my jeep. Then something clicked one day when i was in the car lot and i knew that was the one that i wanted to buy.

here it is the day i bought it

here it is as it sits now (new rear HD leaf springs, many new internal parts, all factory skids, hitch, front tomkin tow hooks, and Goodyear duratrac tires)

honestly the reason i got my XJ at first was because i really wanted a vehicle to get to school. i was looking at Toyota Tacomas for months and months and couldnt find anything reasonably priced. i saw this XJ and decided to go look at it. It was clean and i was dying to have my own car. so we bought it. and as i kept driving it i started to like it more and more! now i have it lifted and love it to death. the Jeep and the community are amazing. couldnt have imagined getting anything else
