maybe someone with the roof mount will chime in but that was my second plan was on the head liner. i like the way mine is mounted because i can easily see what channel i am on and adjust the squelch. plus theres plenty of chord for the mike to reach.

i'll take a pic tonight, but I've got mine mounted on the hump right behind the center console. WalcottCB sells a nice mount for the hump. theyr'e like 7 or 8 bucks. I can't believe no one else puts them there. It's completely out of the way and its easy to hear/get to. plus, it's easy to hide all the wiring with it there.

I have the same exact center console and remove the black "tub" inside. Then made brackets to hold a scanner and a CB facing up so I can reach the controls simply by opening the console lid. the antenna wires run under the seat and up to the roof rack. power is provided from under the dash with the wires for the light switches. small remote speakers are mounted near the side of the seat.
It takes a bit of work to make it look smooth but worth the effort. no one can see either radio from the outside or even while in the Jeep.

sorry for the crappy cell phone pics. I took these at work and it was dark and rainy, so they didn't come out very well. anyways, this is my older mount...walcottcb sells a much nicer, cleaner one than mine, but this will give you an idea of what I'm talking about. I like it here because its out of my way and doesnt look tacky up front. Don't make fun of my oldschool cb either haha, it was in my old XJ when I got it from my grandpa. he put it in there back in 91 when it was new. It works, so it's in my new one as well

isnt it kind of weird to have to reach back and turn half way around to use your CB?

(I think your asking about the in-console set-up..)
Yes and no. if you change channels a lot it isn't as easy, but not too bad, and if you want to see what channel the scanner is recieving that is impossible. But I don't. the scanner is on 24/7 ( I have plenty of battery and it draws little) just a habit. so are the ones in the house. The CB is turned on when needed and left on the channel needed, usually 19. the mic is mounted in an easy to reach location. The security factor outweighs any minor inconvience.

More important...where the heck to put a couple gauges?

if you were asking me, no it's fine. I leave it on ch19 99% of the time, and if I change it, I've got a switch that switches between 9 and 19. I dont ever look back at it, i jsut reach back and turn it on by feel. it's always worked fine for me.
