What would you pay?

So I'm looking for an XJ, 99-01, particularly for a clean one. I live in New England and they're pretty much impossible to find without some serious rot issues. I've gone on to nation wide searching and I'm seeing lots of elevated prices. Book value tops out at about $7,000, but I think we all understand that availability of super clean, low mile XJ's jacks the price up.

So I found one in VA, it has 15,000 miles on it! They also want almost $15k for it. It's probably the nicest specimen of XJ I've ever seen, absolutely immaculate inside and out. It was owned by an old lady who passed a year ago, willed to her son who kept it for about a year as a 2nd vehicle, then traded it in to a Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge dealership. Vehicle is completely stock, and I can't stress enough how clean it is.

I've also looked at lower mileage, clean XJ's and if they're around 75k miles and no rust/good condition, they seem to be consistently between $8-12k.

So here's the question:
Would you jump up to $15k for one of the best examples of an XJ available?
Yes, it's more than double the book. Yes, when the dealer says words like "market value" it makes me cringe.

I'm making a move out to rural Colorado, have a dedicated trail rig already, and would be a daily driver.

Being that I live in the rust belt, I would pay extra for a non-rusty XJ Cherokee, but I would never pay retail (or 2x retail) at a Dealership. I would shop around in the Southern and Western states for reasonable mileage XJ that needs work. Everything in, or on a Cherokee can be replaced, except for a seriously rusty unibody. I have a good supply of interior parts in excellent condition and am looking for a Cherokee that needs some TLC. My last project Cherokee was nasty stinky dirty inside, so I removed and threw away most of the interior and put in clean used replacements. It smells much better now. It also needed a little bit of body work.

Yep I suppose part of this includes me paying for convenience also. I currently need another project like I need another hole in my head, I'm also getting close (6 weeks) to moving out west. I can agree, I have a huge aversion to paying the dealership prices. Sometimes the ultimate question is "What do you have more of right now, time or money?"

That's a nice looking XJ, btw.

Is it at a dealer? My dealership has sold much rougher and higher mileage (still under 100k) 00-01 XJs for $12-13k and none of them have hit the lot before they sold in the last couple years. You'll pay over book for a decent 99+ XJ around here regardless. I'd be tempted on that but I'd keep the mileage low as hell and keep it in a garage.

5K is all I could stomach. Maybe $7K for a flawless 99 in orange.

I would pay that for a Cherokee that had that kind of mileage but, it better be showroom nice. The way I figure , it's close to half the price or more of anything new and half as capable. I mean you are going to pay upper twentys for a new Cherokee or Renegade which makes 15 grand for a like new XJ a bargain.

I am a little confused by the picture, the wheel flares appear to be black and I think all the '99's had painted flares while the roof rack is the shorter one that matches the one on my '99. At least that's how I remember it and by no means would I swear to it.

You can also buy a used LJ or a tj or maybe even a nice cj-8 for 15k.
Idk I'm not a wrangler guy but if I had 15k and saw a 15k xj I'd just laugh.

I would keep this idea in mind. Go out on a search and see how many other rigs you could have at that price point ($15k).
