Checked most of the fluids and drove about 40 miles , one way , to pick up a couple spools of UV resistant outdoor thread .

That^ because the dang wind cranked up enough , quick enough to show us just how weak the 18 year old stitching was in our 18 foot patio awning . The center seam came completely apart , so I'll sew that back together along with redoing all other stitching . There goes a few hundred yards of thread ( double stitched ) . But , then it should be good for another 18 years and I won't have to waste miles on the Country for thread .

Wired up the newish Pioneer head unit I got in a trade. A buddy of mine totaled his Scion and for my old unit plus some cash, I picked up a new unit with AUX and USB ports. Also checked my rear drums and found out I desperately need a new set of shoes.

Follow up :

Not that anyone really cares , but , the canopy is re-installed and back in full service . That after a complete tear down , both mechanical and fabric , completely stripped of old stitching and resewn with UV resistant upholstery thread .
Big job done .

Now I can resume dreaming of a rust free Country that I can do a few choice mods to .

Jeeps in the shop for new steering box and alignment today, tires this weekend or early next week. It's coming back together, will post some pictures with the new rubber. Installed the IRO tie rod, moog TRE's, and IRO drag link this weekend. Nice easy install and it's beefy for sure!

Got to work on a pretty interesting one yesterday. Hp44 front, Isuzu 12 boot rear, custom everything. They chose to keep the Ford wedge system which was interesting. Sitting on 36.5 tires. Needs a new transfer case, waiting on a new output seal for the SYE before it goes back together.

Cool Just returned home..

from a 1500 mile road trip. My wife and I flew from Phoenix AZ to Omaha, Ne to pick up my XJ and my boat from my mom's house. Drove 1500 miles from Omaha Ne, to Greeley, Co, then down to Albuquerque, NM, then into Phoenix.... The Jeep ran awesome but the boat trailer wheel hub blew 2 times and I had to do emergency roadside repairs on it. Fortunately I had brought a spare wheel hub, grease, etc, as this trailer has already had a history and I didn't trust it. The Jeep took some damage as the rear window glass shattered when I threw a wheel hub dust cover into the back seat and it bounced and hit the back glass..Ugh.. My Jeep has over 302,000 miles on it and it sat in my mom's driveway for 6 years while I was at grad school in Colo. The crate motor was put in at 300K and a rebuilt tranny about 6 months ago... Going to take the XJ to safelite for new window ($200) and then get to working on some goodies I've been waiting to install..

Btw..New bumper..

that I installed this past summer worked excellent. Bought off eBay for reasonable price. Checked it for any issues every time I stopped for gas... Solid performance even as I pulled a boat for 1500 miles up and down mountain passes and many 6% grades...

Build thread post 245

Well, last night I thought I'd located one of my various & sundry body leaks. No pics (sorry) but it looks like I opened the pinch seam & broke out some of the factory seam sealer when I folded the pinch seam over inside the left front fender.

Didn't want to use silicone, so decided to give Phil Swift's "liquid rubber in a can" a try. Only got a couple of coats on the area before it was time to move the rig out of the shop for the night.

Of course it decided to rain (fairly hard) for the drive home this morning, which gave me a chance to check to see if I was still leaking. Yep, still have a leak, but this one appears to be coming from behind the fuse panel.

Has anyone else dealt with a leak behind the fuse block? I really don't want to have to pull the fuse block off to seal up behind it, but will if that's the ultimate fix.

On a lighter note, a quick grocery run this afternoon yielded another entry in my "Parking Follies" collection.

Pretty clean late model w/ probably 4 - 4 1/2" lift on what looked to be 33s.

Working with cars is a little like a really awesome date: you start out expecting this to be something simple and straightforward; four hours later you're laying under her, panting and cursing, and things are a lot more complicated than you thought.

As an option, I'd gotten a replacement hatch glass from my local jy for $50.

good to know..

How hard is it to replace if you have no experience doing this kind of work?
