Well the console, engine, transmission, transfer case, and trasnsfer case shifter has been torn out of this Jeep for months since my old roommate did the 4wd swap on his 01 XJ. I believe to get the 4wd shifter out the console and driver seat had to be removed. The console itself should come out by just taking the handle off the transmission shifter and shifting the transfer case into 4Lo. The plastic around both the transmission shifter and around the transfer case shifter can be removed first. I believe there are screws that hold the console down in the center console storage area. I didn't remove the console though so I can't say for sure on that last part.

I have the ignition system with a distributor and a coil. Could the coil be causing my slight miss fire or would it not even run with a bad coil?

I believe when those coils go bad the Jeep won't run at all.

Depends on the type of failure. It is possible to just cause a weak spark and thus an occasional misfire when they short internally, or to fail entirely.

I was to tired to take pictures but here is something for you. Yesterday finished grabbing the computer, alt, and wiring harness that matters from a Federal Emissions '00. Stopped by to see my auto electric guy and talked to him about rebuilding the boneyard one and upping the amps. He says that he can probably get it up to about 150 to 160 amps. Today started grabbing the factory privacy glass from a '97 in the boneyard for my '00. Got the cargo area windows out and if the weather is nice tomorrow will go after the big and little windows in the rear doors tomorrow. Got a call in to my glass guy. Going to let him remove the hatch window from the boneyard one and install it in mine. I will handle the rest. Tools and parts have been coming in right and left for all the upcoming projects. Not mention the ones that I already have here to do. Jeep seems to be running OK, no shortage of parts, the 2 boneyards I go to like me but then again I deliver their auto parts, and money is being spent at an alarming rate. Will post some pictures at some point.

for those who have written about the rear plate issue...

i bought a new frame for my rear license plate as it was faded. when i would slam my rear gate, it would wobble and clank and the screws would pop out.

the new frame i bought ($6) did not have four holes- it only had the top 2. so i took a 1/4 inch drill bit, drilled through the metal (free, 4min), went to the hardware store for two black 6mm bolts (hex head, 80c each), and reassembled.

thanks everyone for your advice!

I've always wanted an xj since the first time I saw a lifted one. Happy to finally be able to introduce myself and I hope I can help me out as much as I can help you all out.

Hey as rust free as it is it could have been pink with purple poka dots. I live in Illinois where they use salt to treat the salt. Maybe some dp to snazzy it up🖒. I kid I kid.

Welcome. Don't forget to fill out your profile so we can help you when issues arise. Since it's an 01, first thing I would do is just make sure the cooling system is in good order. Should help avoid some potential issues down the road.
