Best way to learn is to do it. Start slow and work from there. Sounds like your off to a good start.

Welcome to the Jeep world! As you probably already know this forum is full of enough information to make your eyes bleed. Not to mention you have direct access to some extremely knowledgeable Jeep mechanics (psst i'm not one of them...yet).

Start slow and work with the little things first, change the oil, brakes (front and back), diff fluids, etc. Take things apart and see how they work, but don't forget how to put them back together. Enjoy

A note on brakes
Do one side at a time that way you can look at the other side for reference

Got the mini beast ready for tomorrow's trip to the beach...took out all the winter crap in the back (blanket, ice scraper, gloves..) and put the beach chairs, beach umbrella and extra beach towels. All that I have to toss in after work in the morning is the cooler with some cold drinks...it's about time it warmed up around here.

Sorry Oregon Living only 10 minutes from the oceanfront is the main reason I haven't moved back to Austin after my divorce and the recent passing of my Mom in April. Austin has lakes and the gulf is about 4 hours away..too landlocked for me. I can get to the Outer Banks in under an hour, planning on taking a trip down there with the kids and my guy in June..taking the Jeep on the sand.

Speaking of taking her on the sand..anything I need to do to get her ready for the sand? I've heard about lowering the tire pressure..I've never put her in 4wd so I'm nervous about doing that. I've had the transfer case in my old Suburban grenade when we put her in 4wd. At last check the tranny fluid looks good but I might go ahead and get it changed before the trip.

People suck! I've had my Jeep go up in flames in front of my eyes due to a moletov cocktail. The heat ruptured the power caps from the stereo, so I didn't dare do anything but watch with no hope.
Sorry for the negative story, but the plus side is you can still get it back.
