seriously, one of these threads needs to stay alive in the XJ/MJ section and what better time to get a real one going then now with the creation of the XJ/MJ GD. now, lets keep this going.

for me, all i did today was take pictures of my newly cut front bumper.

picture a few posts down.

I tried to install a lock right locker in the rear axle. The good news is my jeep is one of the few 96's to have a 29 spline 8.25. The bad news is the locker I bought is for a 27 spline. Now I get to put the diff back together and return the locker for one that fits. This is frustrating.

Wow that's an incredibly generous offer, but I don't see how I could live with myself putting that kind of a huge burden on someone else. I would feel guilty :D
seriously though i was gunna lock my 27 spline but im doing a 8.8 swap now

Replaced valve cover gasket, took a little while to figure out the grommets.
Took a real good look at my 0331 head. Looks ok. :)

To answer everyones questions about the engine and tranny

Yes a Regular V8 swap would be cheaper but not easier.
The AW4 will not hold up to my abuse but the T-19 will.
I want to keep with the I-6 just to keep it jeep.

Im hoping that I can start order parts soon and get the thing started. Its not gonna be cheap but its gonna be fun.

Thanks for the  everyone. I will start a thread as soon as I have progress.

Oh and I havent run the engine specs w/o a turbo yet but it probably wont be very impressive because everything is built around the turbo.

I have heard it would take 400 ft-lbs torque stock, 600 upgraded, but I could not confirm that anywhere. Not that I tried very hard.
The AW4 can handle a lot if you build it, yes. Some HD clutch packs, modified accumulator cavities, seals, and royal purple, you have a box that can handle anything. You can build and tinker yourself a nice lil 750 hp monster, but with the same mods and keeping the I6 and your NP231, throw in a built 700R4 and smash 1500 hp out of the park. It's all relative. I'm AW4 all the way. Some friggin people want a manual! Believe that?

I know I could build an AW4 but its not in my budget to build one. I can swap in a t-19 or t-18 that still has some roots in the Jeep world for much much less hassle and cost. I realize how much this engine is going to cost me and I have to make sacrifices somewhere or else it wont get done anytime soon.

I also would like to have the simplicity of a manual trans and also the stupid low gears that come in the t-19/t-18 trans. If I can go with a lower first gear and still have a 1:1 4th gear I will not have to re-gear at 33" tires. If I am keeping the stock 3.55 gears I wont have to worry as much about stripping a ring gear because there will be more tooth contact. This is key when talking about just shy of 600lbft of torque in a Jeep.

Yes Autos are great but you cant get the same low gear ratios that you can with a manual trans (6.xx:1 1st gear).

traced down the problem to my motor stalling out while in lower rpm's turns out some of my vacuum lines were switched around on the egr sylinoid and egr valve and a few other vacuum lines were wrong as well. Thats what i get for allowing someone who "thinks" they know wtf they are doing, help me install a new motor.

went to the casino..first time since going to 7" and i went slow into the parking garage an my lights touched the pole going into the parking garage so parked it outside..looks like the rack is coming off and i will just have to fold the lights back when going into parking garages

Got new injectors.

4 hole ftw.

Also got a set of champion 7034 plugs, they work better for the 2001 distributorless system.
Are those neon injectors? I almost bought a set last week.
