Well his actually sounds like its missing/running rough if you listen carefully to the engine. You said yours is running strong as ever. I don't know if you're going to be able to see a crack clearly but I encourage you to go for it and see what you can find.

Pull the fuse for any radio/amp whatever you have audio wise. It sounds like you could have picked up interference through your audio system. I know it sounds wacky but, it happened to me. Turned out to be a picked the "wrong" 12v source.
Also, A similar noise that my 95 always made im 99% sure is the throttle flappet acting as a whistle when you are engine braking. It started when I put on a OAI. Besides that All I can think of is vacuum leaks but I have never actually found a sound that high pitched coming from a vacuum leak.

WHAT!! Its not that cold out, only 46. I think you're just being lazy :P. And ben...atm=at the moment. Silly.
to stay on topic....i think i get to replace my fuel pump. Mine loves to make bubble blowing noises and growl constantly....yet it always starts without a problem and runs almost perfect. A pressure test will reveal...
new rear shoes and hardware. and 3 cans of brake clean on sale for $2 the good kind too it said in big letters not for use in california. so $40 some odd dollars later.
last night i bought some 100 watt bulbs for my rock lights and some hella 80/100 h4's for my ecodes all on sale on amazon. ya boy im gonna have some light now. now to get off my lazy butt and install my rear shoes
Lets see, I got the RC long arm skid mounted, just waiting on the long arms to put the rest of the lift on. Put a few of the little things on to make the lift easier to put on. Also put the PSC pump kit on, I can turn the wheel with no effort! Gonna make turning the 35s easy!
replaced the broken heater valve. Only took a couple of minutes and took the first test drive since changing plugs, wires and dist. cap. Runs great now, no more hesitation accelerating. I didn't flush the system after changing the valve and refilling antifreeze (almost empty) - should I burp it or is it not necessary if the heater works and there's no evidence of overheating? 94 HO btw.
