my 94 had 255,xxx when i sold it, i still see it running around sometimes. its been over two years. it was driven very hard and wheeled the same way. the 4.0L will last along time when properly maintained. my current 98 has about 150K on it, so its baraly broke in
my XJ has 120,xxx miles, been beat to hell by the previous owner, he jumped it, smashed it, crawled it overheated it, its running with no cat, TPS is bad, something with my alternator circuit...blah blah needless to say the motor still purrs like a kitten... no joke the 4.0 HO in my 94 XJ is quieter than my WJ 4.0 powertech. and to think i got my XJ for $500, sure it breaks every law in the book when you drive it down the road, but who cares? its not illegal until you get caught! i would say you can get 300,000 out of a 4.0 if maintained well... my dads 89 XJ ran for 323,xxx... still ran and drove when he sold it for parts!
150k (if you dont do anything to take care of it) all they way to infinity. These things can last forever i think on this forum there is someone with 400k on the motor? i have for sure heard of 300k with no rebuilds.

haha I thought I was the only one who said my XJ sounded like a deisel!
but I've got 183k on the clock and am very confident that it will for for 300k+
Nope, mine sounds that way too. Not all the time but at startup it does
Been wondering what oil weight to start using. No clue what the PO used but the filter on it is a cheap generic POS. (just bought it)
