This weekend we're picking up my brother's first car (jeep).
We found him a 1987 2-door XJ with the 4 banger and a 5 speed for $750. Everything but AC works fine with over 200,000 on it. And most of the Rcoker panels are still there.
To some fellow Jeepers in warmer climates it may seem a steep price for a rusty old jeep, but compared to a few other Northern-Michigan Jeeps we looked at this one is a gem (for the price). I'm just happy we can find a reliable XJ for my brothers first vehicle.
He's paying for it himself with money he earned from delivering pizza's. He's 18 now, but this is the first vehicle he will actually own, and he's pretty excited to get to fix it up.
nice! that feels like a huge accomplishment! i know first hand...being 18 myself. i found my 94 for $500. i just got REALLY lucky though. be sure to post pics when he gets it...and start a build thread of course.
Hello, I noticed you have an XJ. I have an XJ as well, would you perhaps like to go wheeling?
Well we got it on Sunday. Looks better than I thought on the outside, drivers floor is bad though. Drove it home from Marquette with no problems. I had my brother take pictures of it but he hasn't gotten them off the camera yet.
One thing that concerned me was when he was trying to get it up ramps in the driveway right after the trip, after he messed it up a few times (revving and stalling) it suddenly started smoking from the tranny tunnel pretty bad, no bad sound and no change in the tranny feel or engine.
There was a ton of grime on the trans and bellhousing, could that have been what was actually smoking, the grime? We powerwashed it after it cooled off so hopefully we won't repeat that.
my first vehicle was a 85 2dr 5spd.... In near mint condition. Man, that reminds me, the early 1gen XJ had those sweet rocking front seats. I miss those. I would still own that XJ had bambi not totaled it for me...
