Well I went with a BWD part from Advance Auto, got a hookup there for 20% off. I figured Ill see how it lasts, has lifetime warranty. I just spent a buttload on Xmas presents and a new .357 so Im willing to take a chance on the cheaper part.

Yup when I did mine I used THIS: (a whole bunch of socket extensions)

Nice writeup! I enjoy how you worded that up there, by the way. "For when the time comes..." It does seem to be an inevitable issue on XJ's. I was pleasantly surprised that my OEM unit made it to 207k miles before CPS failure.

Hey man, I browsed through the thread and didn't see anything about a slip yoke conversion maybe I missed it. What's your take on it, is it something that needs to be done or can you get away without it?

Depends on what size lift you're at, would recommend it regardless, but I still have yet to install mine.

i have a 4.5 RC lift with 33" mickey T's. The lift isnt on the car yet but will be after the new year.

Currently Im not running an SYE or a t case drop. I honestly dont have any real vibration issues except above 65, then I get an annoying rhythmic rumble. It has not bothered me too much, but I intend to pick up an IRO hack n tap in the semi near future. Im trying to plan out a trip to drive down and wheel at Turkey Bay, its a 2.5 hour drive on mostly parkway. I dont wanna hear the damn thing the whole trip down and back haha.

I should note every XJ seems a bit different. I lifted a 92 3" and it vibes so bad I had to drop the case an inch to make it even driveable.

Lucky you. I had horrible vibes even after sye needed a 4* shim now it's like butter... Well for a lifted jeep lol

No major updates, but did encounter an issue recently that required some problem solving.

Like most of you, we've been dealing with unusual cold. Been hovering between -6 and 3 degrees for a couple days now. Drove the Jeep in that crap to work yesterday, and when I came back home I stopped in the driveway to see this.


Yikes. No oil pressure. Freaked me out, obviously but no odd noise or behavior from the ol 4.0. This wasnt improving on its own however, and knowing Im behind on an oil change by a good margin was not easing my mind.

I pulled it in the heated garage at the office after I picked up some Havoline 5w30, Mopar filter, and a new oil pressure sending unit after noticing mine was cracked near the nut.


Old oil was definitely nasty, and old sending unit snapped off at the plug like nothing when I went to remove it. Got fresh oil, filter, and sending unit in and all is well again. Crisis averted.

My oil pressure gauge has never worked. I've tried 3 new sending units and I still can't get it to work. Oh well

Since I have owned my Jeep, I have swapped out that oil pressure sending unit 3 times.
They seem to be prone to failure....

I cracked mine the first time I changed the oil on my XJ, due to it's location and the filter being on too tight.

Definitely seems to be a common failure. And Im with you S8NNG8, it is in a vulnerable place if you are trying to fight a tight oil filter.
