Looks good! I dog the hoops. What do you use for an engine cleaner?

I've tried simple green and scrubbing bubbles and they haven't turned out as well as yours did.

Scrubbing bubbles - never thought of that.

Simple green works well for me. Gotta let it soak in a bit before rinsing but it does a bang up job IMO.

But yeah - the engine bay in Brandon's 14 year old XJ looks clean like my 6 year old WK. Very impressive.

Thanks for the compliments guys!

As for the engine bay, my method is pathetically simple really. S8NNG8 has the right idea.

At the top of the page in the pic with CLR you can see how dirty it was from the last outing. When it gets like that I take a good old garden hose and mist the engine bay to get it damp. Then I use a long handled 4x4" head scrub brush that has long soft bristles and scrub everything with Dawn dishwashing liquid, moving hoses/wiring around as needed. The Dawn is a mild degreaser but I like it because it doesnt leave the filmy residue behind.

After that has dried I use spray on aerosol tire shine (foam type) and spray it on all the plastic/rubber areas, and let it sit til the foam is gone, then wipe down any excess. Aside from the "ohhhh shiny" aesthetics of it, it keeps the hoses in good shape and gives them a slick surface to make the next cleanup easier.

To look perfect, my intake mani could use fresh paint, as well as other things but with my use of the Jeep I see no point in digging that deep. My little method above keeps it presentable and makes working under the hood/tracking down leaks a lot easier.

Disclaimer: I am no professionally detailer, and this may all sound stupid and countrified but Ive been doing it this way a long time, works for me. As a side note, if you need to drive it anywhere soon, dont soak the distributor down. Did that on accident once.

Thats what Im saying.

Unfortunately I havent really done anything worth documenting in quite some time. Funding has been practically non existent as far as the Jeep goes, and wheeling season is coming to a close.

Ive got some bigger projects to tackle in the coming months, gonna pretty much try and rebuild the thing to prep for next year. Ive got a lot of things needing improved upon, just waiting on time/money.

When is any build worth keeping cheap now a days. I spent more than I could ever imagine on mine already and receipts keep piling up.

This wasnt supposed to go the route of a play thing when I started, oooopz lol.

As of right now though I dont really have too much tied into it. Ive tried to be frugal when possible, and my suspension setup is all pretty bare bones/basic. That will change by spring of next year though.

Ive been tempted to go out, set it on jackstands and chop my frame side LCA bracket off so I wont keep procrastinating on what I really wanna do lol.

Started off with a 4" Frankenstein lift that cost me about $200. Thought I'd stay there but ended up spending 10x that on just the suspension. 33's are next in line then accessories.

Lol Im still rolling on my 4.5" RE/RC franken lift setup. Done a good job of getting me through wheeling season while I spent the money on locker, front bumper and steel for the rear bumper build. Time to dig back into it though, like to put together a midarm setup before next season.

As a married man of a few years, Ive learned the wife doesnt notice how much money the Jeep gets if you spread out the purchases enough so thats the plan haha.
