Well, in typical Jeep fashion, I had set a day aside to wrench on something (hub bearing replacement) and then something else lets go.

In this case, drivers rear wheel cylinder decided to detonate. It had been leaking slightly before and my brakes were poor anyway so it was on my to do list. Jeep decided today was the day it needed done. Knowing well that I was running all OE equipment I went with new wheel cylinders, hardware, and shoes on both sides. It was a good thing I did:

Cleaning the gunk off and new parts on:

Just got wrapped up with it, about to chow on some pizza and go try it all out. Hopefully all goes well, drum brakes are a pain to work with but they should last me another 14 years I hope.

Yea, mine is roaring pretty bad, no play in it yet though. But it doesnt look like mines getting done today either. Forgot that 99 was a transition year for composite to cast rotors and ordered the wrong type. Mine has the late 99 style with cast rotors. Bummer for getting anything done today. :/

Ohhh and by the way, my brakes are NIGHT AND DAY difference with all new stuff out back. Its just incredible, I had no idea how much of an impact the rear brakes had on stopping distance. Feels like Im driving a tall sports car now lol.

My wife snapped a pic of my daughter and I attempting to start on the hub bearing swap, lol. Shorts weather today mang! Blindin everyone with the winter legs.

I forgot to mention but my exhaust was hangin way low so I did some tweaking to the hanger and got it tucked up much closer to the body, looks much better.

Also a quick interior shot. Im not trying for an apocalypse build or anything but a G22 at my side ready to rock would be a damn good start to one haha.

And a pic sitting in the driveway this evening.

Im considering picking up a smaller shackle (.75"-1) to lower the back a bit. The more I look at it the more I was the rear was a little lower. Next trip to the JY I will try and source out MJ shackles or factory GM fullsize shackles. I hate to spend over 60 bucks on an aftermarket lift shackle for such a minor height adjustment.

Ive made some headway on the shackle hunt. Through my local parts store hookup I grabbed a new set of Ford Ranger shackles for ~30bucks. They are pretty much identical to MJ shackles only much easier to find. Measurements put lift height around 3/4" range, maybe a touch more. OE shackles (per my measurement) were around 3 1/8" eye to eye, where these come in at 4 1/2" eye to eye.

Should put me right where I want to be and get rid of my nose down rake Ive got. Those cut down Chevy lowering shackles gave more lift than I had intended on them doing. Ill hopefully have the time to swap em out this week.

It sits like that even with my fullsize spare and two people in the back. I didnt originally want to go up as high as I am. These shackles should only bring the rear down 3/4" and will calm some driveline vibes in the process.

It looks ok in the pic up there but at certain angles its very obvious it sits higher in the back and it drives me nuts. The Ranger shackles will give me the stance Im looking for and then one day when I buy 33's Ill go ahead and trim the fenders and be all set. Im kind of after the stance that JeepN4KC has going on with his build. As it sits Id have to add a 3/4" spacer up front (which I have) to be happy with it and being on short arm, the last thing I want to do is add more height. And I dont care for drop brackets unless its on a Jeep up 6"+ with 35s, which is not my plan at all.

Lol thicker than the stocker believe it or not, and bent the same to boot. I intend to keep my 1.5" shackles to use later on with no lift relo brackets but I have other things to tend to before then.

Really Im just about done with any mods right now. Im just ready to get out and wheel it and upgrade as I see fit. Still no word from my local OHV park Wishbone Ranch in BG. They usually have a ride by now, I dont know wtf is goin.

Yes, takes a couple washers on the leaf side, but 2" fullsize Chevy drop shackles lift an XJ around 2".
